Check-in on College Apps

I realize that several people have college apps due tomorrow, December 1. How's it coming? Utterly frustrated with any one app yet? I'd rant about the UW, but I realized that it's one of those things you have to actually experience to understand. Thus, I will just say that the online UW app sucked. Seriously, it was a piece of shit. I prefer to have the personal statement/essay be the parts of the app I worry the most about...well, this time it wasn't.

It's not just my stressed hair-splitting nature talking, either....my dad looked at it and said, "Wow, this application really sucks."

Anyway, how're the rest of you coming?

Hey Mike, I'm am here avoiding the UW app, which sucks major balls. In fact, it sucks so much that I am considering not even applying. I am not kidding. I was up at midight last night deciding whether to apply there or Marquette, which I know nothing about other than its deadline is also tomorrow and its not UW. I still have not decided. I read (on Marquette's website) that it has the best engineering program of Jesuit colleges and A told me I could get some scholarship money. But I would need to have a counselor form filled out and don't want Mr. Johnson to have further proof as to what a dipshit I am. So I am undecided. In related news, I am filling out a free Santa Clara app and it seems too easy. I think I may be missing part of it. It doesn't seem to want a transcript or proof of my SAT score. John, if you're reading this, that app is due Dec.1, not the 15th, so try and get it done. Oh, and is it just four pages, all connected? I hope so.

The good news is that I now know what a common app is.

Oh man, I worked on that this weekend. It was so ghetto. I rarely use that word but I really cannot think of a better word to describe this. The UC schools also have a similar system where you have to report your own transcript but there's isn't as piss poor as the Washington one.

ben, I found out about the common app late too. And honestly, am I missing something here? I don't think UW is nearly as complicated as you guys are making it out to be. Just fill out the stuff, copy an essay from some other application you've already done and submit it. I like not having to ask teachers for stuff.

Mike and I and probably Shakeer are doing honors, so there is an added degree of difficulty including an extra essay on some crazy-ass stuff, getting a teacher rec., and filling out two of the exact same application. Its not that its that difficult, its just that we're guys and complain about stuff we don't want to do, which is pretty much everything. So, should I try to pull an epic one night complete research and application process for Marquette, or be realistic and go with my 50% done UW?

Do we have to have collegeboard send our SAT results to a place like, oh say UW, by the time the app is due? Hypothetically of course.

Ben you should definately go with Marquette for three simple reasons: 1. It's really easy; 2. I'm going there and hello that by itself is reason enough to apply; 3. YOU would be considered a college app God if you finished the whole thing in one night; oh and a fourth reason is that you qualify for a full scholarship...although you'd have to fight me for it....

Dude, I am seriously not applying to UW just because of the stupid application. It's not the form so much, just the stupid essay and the early due date. BTW, UW isn't due until Jan 15, unless for some reason, you want to apply for scholarships, which case it's due on the first.

Well, I was planning on applying to the Honors program too, but I'm definiteley not turning that extra stuff in until later. Also, aren't you supposed to print out a copy of the app (not fill out everything again) since everything's supposed to be mailed in directly to the UW's Honors department or whatever?

I don't think the SATs have to arrive by dec 1st, but i guess they should arrive in a timely manner since well, they need it to consider you for admission...a lot of schools allow scores to come in later

"Walk Away" another Ben Harper song that would be playing in the extremely boring movie that would be my life as I leave the computer tonight with the UW app not done and being severely confused as to whether I need something from Mr. Johnson for Santa Clara and not remembering whether I got him to do it already or not. I don't care on either counts. I don't want to go to either school, really. Its the thing where if they gave me a full ride I might consider it. Ironically, by not sending these things in on time, I am pretty much denying myself that scholarship, but who the fuck cares? I don't. Goodnight applications. Fuck you University of Washington.

From what I've seen of UW, it's like a very hot man with no brain at all. Good lookin' but no content, and it costs WAAAYYY to much to have him come over and sit on your lap. Yeah, that and I'm too lazy to apply there. Hoo boy, let's hear it for my lack of work ethic!

Instead of worrying about silly college applications, you all should come to Portland Meadows on Saturday (Dec 4) at 9:30 am to watch the NATIONAL Cross-country meet and cheer on your Crusaders. We can all bitch about college apps at the race together.

Well, the whole mess got sorted out. Thank God it's done. It's funny because I don't know if I really wanna be part of the honors program.

Oh well, it's a chance for people to give me money...which is why I sent it at the priority deadline.

I find it funny that even if I held off till the 15th of January, I'd still run into this same stress problem. Good old procrastination.

Somehow, I wasn't deterred from UW. I just love suburban Seattle, I guess.
