Steve Hauschildt DISSOLVI (2018)
I spent yesterday evening listening to all Steve's previous albums, and it was a terrifically meditative way to progress through work. With the increasing clarity of distance, safe to say that Emeralds was my favorite bands of the '00s, and after they split up, the abundance has flourished, as if two greenhouses were blasted into space to terraform two naked rocks, did & suddenly we had three earths.
Mark McGuire and Steve Hauschildt are a study in contrasts: Mark has followed his path into Native American spirituality and loose sundances of joy and remembrance. Steve is more of a European formalist, but he brings a New World sense of possibility and boundlessness. Both have a terrific sense of selfhood, solitude and absolute gratitude amid a world brimming with beauty waterfalling into every moment.
I love the Julianna Barwick and GABI features in this album, positioned midpoint in Side A and Side B, respectively. I honestly think, as fucking corny as it sounds, in this current climate, fed a bunch of news daily that schisms the mind with cognitive dissonance, the mask falling off an always-ill empire, you need restoratives like this to balance you on two feet and give you purpose and hope as you push forward, ready for what's next.
