The Mountain Goats DARK IN HERE (2021)

Bernie absolutely rinsed the competition in donations from active-duty troops by the Iowa caucuses, never let society (or Hegel's The Other) make you feel like an outsider, you have more allies than you could ever know.

Steve Roach DREAMTIME RETURN (1988)

if you've got an afternoon to kill, throw this double LP on and look into Operation Paperclip, the spider network, ratlines, and Fourth Reich in South America, which was the postwar Wild West and has been a theatre of struggle and domination for over a century now, especially if you throw Central America into the deal:

Japanese Breakfast JUBILEE (2021)

song of the year, at high-noon, songs that get us through the first half of the year deserve bonus points in year's-end estimation.  I believe this whole-heartedly.

the 2nd half of a calendar year is all hits, start off with 4th of July, a couple summer months, Labor Day, September, that divine Queen of months, football season and fall's sweet breezes, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the slide home to New Year's Eve.

The back nine gets all the glory, the first half is a slog and this pip of a song is carrying me through, it would have been a fun FM trifle maybe back in the soft rock 70's, but now it is the road rising up to meet me.  May the wind be always at your back, may you be in heaven an hour before the devil knows you're dead.

Mr. Kitty ETERNITY [REMASTERED] (2018)

Barry Lyndon is as great as all the film nerds have always said.

Bury London...hmm...much to consider....

(smokes 200 cigarettes)

Ok, here goes, the City of London is a distinct, nigh-sovereign municipality within the 'city limits' of London but not 'of London'

(the Queen herself has to ask permission to enter, as it well predates her family's rule, predates the Battle of Hastings, in fact)

and it is there, in this financial Vatican that the rules of international capital are bent in the most incredible, nearly magical ways.  Mathematics are purely theoretical, mutable, and the realms of speculative investment are stratospheric, the oxygen is quite thin, debts are issued a hundredfold beyond any reasonable ability to repay, and this is quite fine thank you very much, no sir, we do not accept your subpoenas, but maybe next time.

It truly is like something out of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norell, wizards doing things a gentleman never would.

Capitalism loves a good counter-culture. There are many reasons to say no to drugs, #1 being that they just provide extra funding for American black-ops :-0

Bill Evans EVANS IN ENGLAND (1969)

post-modernism was largely a psy-op, Abstract Expressionism (while often very cool, not disputing that!) was way upsold, promoted to limit the influence of social realism in Europe and Latin America; we have a rich fucking history, trust your gut, go with God.

Coming to Jakarta: A Poem about TerrorComing to Jakarta: A Poem about Terror by Peter Dale Scott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Simply the most important book of poetry ever written. The history of the 20th century is contained within its covers, beautifully & devastatingly interwoven with Dr. Scott's own life and the Gospel of Thomas, Bhagavad Gita, and work of Ezra Pound.

If you want to understand how and why we are so deeply trapped in cycles of exploitation and degradation, track down a copy, and follow the footnotes

man maybe we should stop researching arming viruses with buzzsaws lol idk tho

Violet Bent Backwards Over the GrassViolet Bent Backwards Over the Grass by Lana Del Rey
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I think of it less as a collection of poetry (it has maybe a quarter of even a thin volume of poetry) and more as an holistic folk art book, which is borne out by the multimedia lengths to which Lana and the book designers went, including her very evocative photography, historical pictures, and truly beautiful oil paintings. They also replicated her typewritten pages with occasional pen marks for corrections, alternate versions or doodles, which turned out very nicely. Furthermore, beneath the dust jacket, I was surprised to see that they had replicated the gorgeous cover art. Really a collectible piece, and the price recently dipped at a certain evil online retailer, so if you have a gift card or whatnot, I think it would be a nice addition to a poetry collection. It definitely shows how deluxe a modern book of poetry can be if the publisher knows they'll hit their sales targets ;-)
