ATLANTA: ROBBIN' SEASON

The first season was very good slice-of-life at the margins. The second season is gorgeous and thrillingly inventive; somehow a whole-cloth experience of daily grind narrative married to farce, with equally essential and complex dives into each characters' psychology and relationships. No wasted beats, and that means something in this hollower Silver Age.  All hustle no sweat.  All Curry no Ewing.

Come for the laughs, stay for the close-to-the-bone critique of the American service industry and an exploration of the toll of emotional work.  Regina Hall gives an incredibly studied, nuanced performance and brings life to this suppressed knowledge we have that a manager is either with ownership or with labor, and the ones with labor need every ounce of help.
