Oakley Hall with a worthy war-time melodrama, highlighting the men that were driving the machines that were changing the California landscape so fast, and the women fighting for some share of the future with the tools at their disposal. Was the anti-heroine at the center of this Pynchon-fave novel the inspiration for his "V"? We'll probably never know.
